Lissa Batey

Lissa Batey is Senior Marine Ecologist. She has a doctorate in the ecology and conservation of the harbour porpoise along the west coast of the UK and a BSc. (Hons) in marine biology, both from Plymouth University. Lissa has worked in marine conservation for over 20 years, having originally spent six years working at sea on a research vessel whilst teaching marine biology, fisheries management and dolphin behaviour. In working for Plymouth University, Lissa taught the next generation of conservationists and has run summer school events engaging under-privileged young people and young carers with the natural environment.

She spent 15 years at The Wildlife Trusts where as Head of Marine Conservation she managed a broad portfolio of marine work including the designation and management of Marine Protected Areas, fisheries and aquaculture and marine spatial planning and prioritisation, whilst aiming to achieve nature’s recovery at sea. Lissa is also a member of the advisory board for the Devon Environment Foundation and the South West Marine Ecosystems Steering Group.

When not at work she can be found walking the coast path, trekking over Dartmoor, or on Devon and Cornwall’s beaches bodyboarding.
