About the book

With acute senses, a lightweight body, unrivalled stamina and power in numbers, the African wild dog is one of Africa's most successful hunters. But these remarkable characteristics saw the African wild dog fare badly with the arrival of big game hunters in Africa in the late 19th century. This charismatic carnivore has been an underdog in its fight to find its place in a developing continent ever since. Here, Neil Aldridge celebrates what is special about the African wild dog and explores the efforts being made to secure its future in South Africa and beyond.
Neil Aldridge is a conservation photojournalist whose work is influenced by his time growing up in Africa and by his work in the UK's conservation sector. His photography of conservation issues not only showcases charismatic, controversial and endangered wildlife but, as importantly, it debates man's relationship with these creatures and their environments too. His images have been published and exhibited all over the world and have featured in the winning portfolios of the coveted international Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition and the British Wildlife Photography Awards.
As a professional wildlife guide, field skills and an intimate knowledge of wildlife play a central role in Neil's success and enjoyment of photography. Alongside his skills with a camera, this guiding experience allows him to run photo safaris and deliver workshops with wildlife enthusiasts and budding photographers across Africa and Europe.
A benefit to conservation has always been at the centre of his photography. As well as aiming to promote debate and awareness through his work, Neil provides images to a number of wildlife charities to promote their valuable work and inspire their audiences. With a percentage of proceeds from sales of this book being donated to African wild dog conservation efforts, this project is no different. By purchasing this book you are directly influencing the future of this beautiful yet endangered species.
